Description
Commerce can be a potent force for strengthening community. This happens in local contexts, where independent retailers on Main street are the glue that hold small towns together, and in the global context, where platforms like Etsy are known as much for their sense of community as they are for their platform capabilities. The ecosystem is focused on creating the next generation of projects, protocols, and programs that have the potential to bootstrap an economy that is supportive of the small-scale entrepreneurs in those communities.
Already, there are many efforts underway across the Celo ecosystem: for example, creator platforms like Kickstarter, mutual credit protocols, and community currencies such as Mento cREA) and cEUR. Looking ahead, there are more opportunities here—both on the protocol and application level—with community-created games, small-group cultural production, NFT projects, community DAOs, and more.
